Could it travel in shallow water?  No, because its hull is deep in the water. (84kb) This is a copy of a plaque that is on the site where the USS Monitor was built in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. (87kb)
Can you find the USS Monitor's turret? It has two guns and rotates so the USS Monitor can shoot in any direction without turning the ship. (97kb) This was once a Civil War flag pole that was cut down to become a presentation piece.  It belonged to Ellsworth's Fire Zouaves. (87kb) Old Abe was a Civil War Mascot.
