The Church of the Ascension was the Church of Thomas Fitch Rowland, the owner
of Continental Iron Works who built the USS Monitor. Funds Mr. Rowland
obtained from the construction of the USS Monitor and other Monitor Class vessels
were used to build this Church.

Lithograph of the original statue of John Ericsson - replaced by the present
John Ericsson statue located in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan.

William Parry, Secretary of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Oliver Tilden Camp No. 26,
and "Old Abe" the Eagle join Arthur and George in thanking all for joining us on this day.
Still hoping some day to establish our waterfront home in Greenpoint, the birthplace of the USS Monitor.
