The USS Monitor helped save the Union when she fought and stopped the Merrimac from destroying the US Navy fleet. On December 31, 1862 the USS Monitor sunk in a storm. This flag was on the barge when the USS Monitor's turret was brought up from the bottom of the sea in 2002.
